Minutes of the General Meeting
March 10, 2001
Pickwick Room, Strawbridges
I. Meeting was called to order by Pres. Muhly who welcomed all,
especially new members and visitors.
II. Pat Roussel, the program chairperson, introduced Dr. Alfred
(Ernie) Schuyler who spoke on the Botanical Results of the Lewis
and Clark Expedition.
III. There was an approval of the minutes from the January meeting.
IV. Marion Rowen gave the treasurer's report. We have a balance
of $3955.15 as of March 1, 2001.
V. Jean Jones gave a report on the decisions of the Board.
A. For the 2003 program, we will investigate raising the money for
the production of a video lasting 30 minutes and costing $1,000
per minute. If funding is not available, we will look into other
options. B. Frank Muhly is looking for photos and images for the
Eastern Legacy of the Lewis and Clark map. He has applied
for a $5,000 grant from the National Park Service. He has not heard
from the NPS to date.
C. We have procured a vendor's table at the Pierre meeting and will
be selling Cutright reprints, patches and L&C maps. Attendees
of the meeting will be asked to volunteer their time to work the
table.
VI. Reports
A. Tom Davis
1. The Wistar sign is now up
2. The Cutright reprint has been through one proofreading and will
hopefully be available for the Pierre meeting.
3. If we find a wall and the money for the L&C mural, the commission
will help us. Estimated cost is between $15-25,000.
B. Anne Mackintosh reported on the new web site at
http://www.lewisandclarkphila.org. It is being very well received.
C. President Muhly reported sending in a total of 3912 volunteer
hours to the national foundation. Hours may be handed in quarterly.
D. President Muhly reported that the motel reservations deadline
for Harper's Ferry is March 12. A trip to Charlottesville, Va. Is
tentatively scheduled for September 29 & 30, 2001.
The next meeting will be held in Pierre at the annual meeting. The
time and date will be announced.
