Now that you’ve heard the traffic report, imagine this: Facing an exploration across the unmapped American West, without On Star, cars, or roads, mostly “pole-ling”, dragging, or paddling a fifty-five foot keelboat and dugout canoes. Getting horses only to cross the Rockies, thanks to Sac-a-ja-way-ah. The snow wasn’t her fault. Then back to water, using celestial navigation all the way. That’s the skill Meriwether Lewis was prepping for in Philadelphia and Lancaster two hundred years ago. Join like-minded folk in the Philadelphia Chapter (so named for Lewis’s visit here in 1803) and get more out of the four year Bicentennial Commemoration where the expedition really began. Have you heard of the historic team of Lewis and Clark? No, they weren’t Lois and Clark. And they weren’t a warm up act for Sonny and Cher. Prez Tee Jay sent them trekking across America from 1803 to 1806, exploring the Louisiana Purchase. He sent Lewis to Philadelphia to get ready in the months of May and June two hundred years ago. Local fans will host the national meeting this summer at the Loews Hotel in Center City, Philadelphia, August ninth to thirteenth, two thousand and three. V1- Wrong! Sent by President Thomas Jefferson, they explored that “blank space” on early maps of America, exploring the Louisiana Purchase. It took from 1803 to 1806.
