History of Louisiana by Antoine Le Page Du Pratz (2nd English ed., 1774). On the fly ]eaf of this book is an inscription in Lewis's handwriting which reads: "Dr Benjamin Smith Barton was so obliging as to lend me this copy of Monsr. Du Pratz's history of Louisiana in June l803. It has since conveyed by me to the Pacific Ocean through the interior of the Continent of North America on my late tour thither and is now returned to its proprietor by his Friend and Ob't Servt. Meriwether Lewis, Philadelphia, May 9th, 1807."

Auction Catalogue of Isaiah Luken's estate. Among the items listed for sale, on January 4,1847, was: "1 large [Air Gun] made for and used by Messers. Lewis and Clark in their exploring expeditions. A great curiosity."
